kîhcikosiwin

to climb; the act of climbing or going up a ladder or stairs

Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre is proud to pilot a new program, kîhcikosiwin (ᑮᐦᒋᑯᓯᐃᐧᐣ, to climb; the act of climbing or going up a ladder or stairs) which pairs two Circle of Voices alumni with artistic mentors in the theatre community as they look to build their creative practice.

Areas of mentorship can include but are not limited to directing, stage management, and theatre design (set, costumes, lighting, sound, props).

This program is a paid, six-month residency for both mentors and mentees culminating in a showcase of the learned discipline and a portfolio/CV that can be used to kickstart a professional career in the arts.

Participants of the kîhcikosiwin program will:

  • Build Upon Skills. Strengthen skills in the selected discipline of directing, stage management, or theatre design from a local professional.
  • Create a Foundation. Develop tools and templates that can be expanded upon as their career grows, including portfolio templates, a CV, etc.
  • Learn Hands On. Actively receive mentorship and hands on experience with the mentor by shadowing them on their artistic practice.
  • Celebrate Your Success. Celebrate your success in the program with a showcase of learned skills and experiences to conclude the program.
