La Mitchin di Mitchif (Mitchif Medicines) is a new Indigenous contemporary dance work created through an international collaboration between Vancouver's V’ni Dansi (‘Come and Dance’ in Michif) and Santa Fe’s Dancing Earth. Co-choreographed by Yvonne Chartrand and Dancing Earth Artistic Director Rulan Tangen, this hour-long production of La Mitchin di Mitchif explores Métis cultural heritage and fosters a living relationship to the land and Mother Earth.
Through an international collaboration that highlighted the similarities of Indigenous peoples across the borders of Canada and the United States, this exciting dance production was able to explore intergenerational teachings that are passed from Elders to adults to youth. There are important connections between people, animals, and plants that can be shared by Indigenous peoples who are caretakers of the land. We need to live in harmony with Mother Earth and allow these natural medicines to once again help us.
